Douyin, A popular chinese social media app has banned Peppa Pig due to being too gangsta!
The British children’s TV icon has apparently become a subculture icon after developing a gangsta reputation among adults. More than 300,000 clips have been deleted from the platform as well as the hashtag #PeppaPig being banned.
People who upload videos of Peppa Pig tattoos and merchandise and make Peppa-related jokes “run counter to the mainstream value and are usually poorly educated with no stable job”, the Global Times said. “They are unruly slackers roaming around and the antithesis of the young generation the [Communist] party tries to cultivate.”
Douyin’s sister app, Jinri Toutiao, was suspended from Chinese app stores for three weeks after the government accused it of hosting inappropriate content.
